A great calorie counter and diet tracker, whether you’re looking to lose weight, gain weight or just improve your diet. The app has a database of over 5 million foods, simply scan the barcode of the item and MyFitnessPal will give you all the nutritional information you need. The app will also tell you how many calories you have burned throughout the day.
Quit Smoking – Smoke Free
Cost – Free
There are a number of stop smoking apps out there, but Smoke Free is considered one of the best. Monitor how much money you’ve saved, how many cigarettes you’ve not smoked, how long you’ve been smoke free and how your health is improving.
Set and Keep Good Habits – Loop
Cost – Free. Loop is only available on Android at present.
To build a good habit it must become routine like cleaning your teeth, so it’s important you stick at it. Loop helps you create and maintain good habits, allowing you to achieve your long-term goals. Detailed graphs and statistics show you how your habits improved over time. Even better, no ads or in-app purchases.
Learn a New Language – Duolingo
Cost – Free
Apple’s ‘iPhone App of the Year’, Duolingo will teach you Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Irish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, and English, for free. Practice speaking, reading, listening and writing. Play a game, answer questions and complete lessons to improve your vocabulary and grammar. Start with basic verbs, phrases, and sentences, and learn new words daily.
Use Your Phone Less – BreakFree
Cost – Free
It could be your new year’s resolution for 2017 is simply to cut down on the amount of time you spend on your phone. BreakFree monitors phone and app usage including number of unlocks and the number of hours altogether you have spent on your phone in a day, week and month. Notifications will warn you as your usage increases and moves through zones (Green > Yellow > Red) throughout the day.
