There’s no doubt the Samsung Galaxy S7 is a brilliant phone with some amazing, innovative features. However, it’s the S7’s IP68 rating we’re most interested in. IP stands for Ingress Protection Rating and classifies the degrees of protection against both solids and liquids in electrical enclosures. IP68 is the highest IP rating available (Sony Xperia is 67). So we’re asking, just how water resistant or waterproof is the Galaxy S7?
The S7’s IP68 rating, and a number of tests, suggest that the phone is indeed watertight enough to sustain an accidental dunking say. Officially, Samsung state that the Galaxy S7 can sustain up to 30 minutes or 1.5 meters under. But, importantly, there is a difference between water resistant and waterproof; no smartphone is truly waterproof. What the Galaxy S7 will allow you to do, is to take some photos in the pool or freshwater, an amazing feature on its own. But, that does not mean the phone should accompany you in the sea. So, for those of you either using or considering using the Galaxy S7, we hope we haven’t scared you. It remains the most water and dust resistant smartphone on the market; just don’t take it snorkelling.
And if you are using it, we’d love to know how that’s working out for you.
